Students research the car of their dreams and the approximate cost of the car. Students need to consider at least two different models. Students decide how much they are able to save over five years and when they should start saving. Students create a google slide presentation comparing the price, safety rating(www.iihs.org) and gas mileage of the two models chosen, and why the two models were chosen. Students state in their proposals the total cost of the car minus 20% down payment (personal savings) to determine the loan amount. Students must determine if the yearly payments are realistic.

MA Standards

7.RP.A.1
Compute unit rates associated with ratios of fractions, including ratios of lengths, areas and other quantities measured in like or different units. For example, if a person walks ½ mile in each ¼ hour, compute the unit rate as the complex fraction ½/¼ miles per hour, equivalently 2 miles per hour.
7.RP.A.3
Use proportional relationships to solve multi-step ratio, rate, and percent problems. For example: simple interest, tax, price increases and discounts, gratuities and commissions, fees, percent increase and decrease, percent error.
