Students are asked to design an access ramp, which complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, to make our school more accessible. Students collect data, research standards and develop a ramp design to determine costs, using local pricing, for two types of ramps, wooden and concrete.
MA Standards
GEO.G-MG.A.3
Apply geometric methods to solve design problems (e.g., designing an object or structure to satisfy physical constraints or minimize cost; working with typographic grid systems based on ratios).*
MII.G-SRT.C.8Use trigonometric ratios and the Pythagorean Theorem to solve right triangles in applied problems.*
MIII.G-GMD.B.4Identify the shapes of two-dimensional cross-sections of three-dimensional objects, and identify three-dimensional objects generated by rotations of two-dimensional objects.
SMP.1Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
